Goals

The purpose of this lesson is to help trainees to download and install plug-ins, as well as to understand the various categories of content which may require a plug-in.

Enabling Objectives

During this lesson, trainees will be shown screen captures of the missing plug-ins alert as well as the download window. They will also be given a short explanation of what a plug-in is and some specific examples of widely used plug-ins. Trainees will be directed to the Nettrain plug-in checker for more detailed information as well as help downloading and installing plug-ins.

Terminal Objectives

Upon completing this lesson, several terminal objectives will be attainable:
  1. Trainees will be able to name several browser plug-ins such as Quicktime, Acrobat Reader, and Flash Player, and explain their purpose in extending the capabilities of the browser.
  2. Trainees will be able to download a plug-in to a named folder, navigate to that folder and launch the plug-in.
  3. Trainees will be able to locate the NETtrain plug-ins checker and use it to determine which plug-ins are present in their own browsers.
  4. Trainees will be able to describe the sorts of web content which may require a plug-in.
