Goals

This lesson is intended to introduce the basics of navigating the Internet. We will talk about the navigating tools including the different kinds of pointers and the proper use of scroll bars. We will also talk about different kinds of hyperlinks, the structure of a typical web site, and how to avoid being tricked by clever advertising.

Enabling Objectives

This lesson will be in the form of interactive Flash animations which will require the user to click through a sequence of pages, and demonstrate certain rollover techniques.

Terminal Objectives

Upon completing this lesson, several terminal objectives will be attainable:

  1. Trainees will be able explain when and why a mouse pointer arrow turns into a pointing finger.
  2. Trainees will be able to identify the "wait" pointer for both the PC and the Mac.
  3. Trainees will be able to identify the arrow and slider parts of a scroll bar and to demonstrate their proper use in moving around a web page.
  4. Trainees will be able to identify inline text links, buttons, rollovers and various kinds of navigation bars.
  5. Trainees will be able to explain the difference between a "home page" and a "support page" and to explain what sorts of elements might be found on these types of pages.
  6. Trainees will be able to explain the usual process of making an online purchase.
  7. Trainees will be able to describe at least three types of pop-up advertising trick techniques and how to avoid being tricked into clicking into the ad.
