| Lesson Goal: Students will know what a “clock face” is. Students will be able to correctly name the two parts of a clock face: the hands and numbers. When asked what we look at to tell the time, students will be able to correctly identify the phrase “clock face” among three or four alternatives, for example, “clock head,” “clock body," etc. |
||
| section 1 | ||
| Students will see an animation and hear
narration that introduces the key parts of a clock face, namely, the hands
and numbers. This animation is well-suited for a group presentation, for
instance, with a projector. Start the lesson |
||
| section 2 | ||
| Students can click on a clock to learn
about what its parts look like and what they are called. They can click
the numbers and hands and see animations for each. This activity works well
on a Smart
Board. It may also be helpful to demonstrate this activity with a projector. Start the lesson |
||
| section 3 | ||
| Students will
participate in an activity in which they are told to click on a part of
the clock (either the numbers or the hands). They must identify and click
on the mentioned part. A Smart
Board may be useful for class demonstrations of this activity; students
can also work individually or in pairs. Start the lesson |
||
| section 4 | ||
| Students will have a chance to practice
what they've learned by playing a game. In this game, hands or numbers fall
from the top of the screen. Students must correctly identify each part by
“catching” the piece and moving it into a matching bin. A Smart
Board may be useful for class demonstrations of this activity; students
can also work individually or in pairs. Start the lesson |
||
| section 5 | ||
| Students will gain more exposure to the
parts of a clock face by coloring a series of clocks in various shapes,
for example, in the shape of a Navajo wedding basket, an analog wall clock,
and so on. A Smart
Board may be useful for class demonstrations of this activity; students
can also work individually. Start the lesson |
